After months of waiting, the outdoor season is back. On a blazing hot afternoon across KZN, Gongs Hockey Club sent three teams onto the turf for the first time in 2026 - and the atmosphere reminded everyone exactly why this game, and this club, matter.
Men's 1st, Men's 3rd, and Ladies' 1st all saw action across two venues. The heat was unrelenting, but so was the spirit.
Results
- Men's 1st 1–3 vs Gryphons (Westville Girls High)
- Men's 3rd 0–0 vs Umhlali 3rds (Riverside — 10 men, held the line)
- Ladies' 1st 0–3 vs Riverside 4th (Westville Girls High)
The Men's 1st opened the season against a strong Gryphons side at Westville Girls High, while the Men's 3rds showed tremendous heart at Riverside - holding Umhlali to a 0–0 draw despite being a man down for the match. The Ladies' 1st faced a well-organised Riverside outfit at Westville Girls High to get their season underway.
Playing in the true spirit of the game.
Results aside, what mattered most was what has always mattered at Gongs - showing up, competing hard, and doing it with goodwill. All three teams did exactly that. The season stretches ahead, the squad is together, and hockey is back.
